What sparked my love for influence?

Well, perhaps because I used to be the least influential person in the world.

You see, back in the day, I wanted to be an actress. I majored in theatre, studied in London, and even took the plunge and went to New York City. It was in New York, while watching Chicago on Broadway, that I had a rude awakening. “I don’t want to do this!”

I won’t go into all the reasons why I no longer wanted to pursue acting, but I was quickly on a plane back home to figure out the rest of my life.

I promise you that there is nothing less influential than a former actress looking for a job in corporate America when the only thing on her resume is a list of shows she was in.

I knew that I would have to step up my game to convince someone to take a chance on me. And so, I did the only thing I could think of, I studied. I read every book I could get my hands on that had to do with communication, marketing, persuasive public speaking, and so on. I found that I kept going further down the communication skills rabbit hole. Shortly after that people started asking for my advice for their speeches, asking their bosses for raises, and sales meetings. Since then, I have been a professional speaker, writer and coach in the area of communication skills for almost a decade.

Recently, I have taken things to the next level.

I didn’t want to just know about what good communicators do, I wanted to know what MASTERFUL communicators do.

And so, through some amazingly kismet connections, I have been able to interview CIA field operatives, undercover law enforcement, con-artists, human intelligence officers, interrogators, trial attorneys, and many other individuals who are highly skilled at building rapport and being persuasive.

The discoveries made in those interviews and additional research are what I’m including in the 6-week online course on Increasing Personal Influence.
